After a very nice vacation, I am back with some beef. My beef this week has to do with players in sports going to different teams. I have no problem with the players. It is the fans that I have a beef with. What put me over the edge is all the talk about how Michigan fans are happy that they do not have Terrelle Pryor because he cannot throw, he is stupid, he is selfish, and more and more excuses. This put me over the edge because as anyone watching sports could see, Michigan could definitely use a Terrelle Pryor and before he committed to go to The University of Ohio State University (Pryor joke), every Michigan fan wanted him. Michigan has had a lot of players leave in the past couple years for various reasons and just about every time one leaves, everyone says that they are happy not to have them. I’m sorry but that is just not the case. Is Michigan really better off without Terrelle Pryor, Ryan Mallett, Justin Boren, and Mario Manningham, along with others? I don’t think so. This applies to just about every fan too. I have heard Red Sox fans say how bad C.C. Sabathia and Mark Teixeira are going to be just a week after they said how good they were. Oh, so just because they go to the Yankees they are all of a sudden terrible? NO, NO, NO. So please fans, when talking about players, even if it does not favor your team, be logical.
33’s Beef
December 11, 2008I tried to stay away from college football but it is just too hard. Not because I have a beef with a lot, but because I love it so much. If I had an article called 33’s Love, then I do not think I could stop writing about college football. Anyway this is about my beef. My beef this week goes to the BCS. Shocker, huh? But I don’t quite think it’s for the reasons that you may have a beef with it. While yes, I will admit I am a little ticked off that Texas did not get in the National Championship and Oklahoma did, my beef there is with the Big 12, not the BCS. So you may be wondering, what the hell I am talking about? Well I am talking about the Boise State Broncos and the fact that they are not in a BCS game. They are ranked higher than three of the teams in BCS games, and one of those is an at-large team! The fact that Ohio State is in the Fiesta Bowl and Boise State is not just astounds me. I understand that college football is all about the money, but c’mon Boise is undefeated and Ohio State has two losses. Is it true that I hate Ohio State, of course, but this is not a biased opinion. I promise you that. My bigger beef is with Boise State not getting in than with Ohio State actually getting in. Does anyone realize that Boise State has more BCS game wins in the last two years than Ohio State does? Does anyone realize that they are even ranked higher that the Buckeyes? No, of course not, everyone is whining about Texas, well guess what Texas, win all your games and you would have been here. Boise State win all your…, oh wait a minute, YOU DID and you get rewarded with the Poinsettia Bowl! What a joke.
33’s Beef
December 4, 2008Beef of the weak goes to criminals dominating Sportscenter and ESPN in general. This week Plaxico Burress, who went to Michigan State I may add, shot himself in the leg and now he is looking at facing some jail time for having the gun anyway. I realize that this kind of stuff is important as we need to know how people are being punished for their wrong doing. The amount of time that they spend on Plaxico Burress is tolerable, but if any of you remember Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, or Michael Vick, you know that Sportscenter changed its name to Convictscenter. They based the entire Sportscenter, along with everything else on ESPN around these criminals and I remember not being able to take it anymore. Like I said the Plax talk is fine for now, but guess what, this is going to drag on, and it is going to be so annoying that people are going to start to dislike Plax even more than they dislike Pacman. I don’t care whether people like Plax or not, but all I do care about is the fact that I tune in to ESPN to see highlights and what is new in the news. Plax shooting himself is not new news to me! He did this on Friday night. GIVE IT A REST!
33’s Beef
November 20, 2008This is a NEW! segment by the man known as Matthew David Caligaris I.
My first beef is with the idea that there are not enough black head coaches in college football. I want to say right now that I am not racist. It is sad that I have to say it, but these days it seems like everyone needs to be politically correct.
We learned this past week that Tyrone Willingham from Washington and Ron Prince from Kansas State will not be back as the head coaches of their respective teams. This of course caused an uproar as it does every time a black head coach is fired or dismissed. The problem now is that the number of black head coaches in college football’s FBS is down to four. Some people are outraged and think that college football should institute something like the NFL’s Rooney Rule which states that every team must interview a black candidate for head coach of their team. I have a beef with this because people do not understand that college football is the most popular and important college sport to universities and colleges that are in the FBS and athletic directors are not not hiring black head coaches simply because they are African American. They are not hiring black head coaches because they are looking for who will help them win. If someone can name a black head coach who has been successful in the game of college football then please bring it here. Before black head coaches start getting more of an opportunity, they need to win. Right now Randy Shannon at Miami is in a prime position to start the movement. He is at a big time program that needs rebuilding. If he can get them back to national prominence, then I expect to see more black head coaches in college football. Remember winning is the first goal to every school. It is not the color of one’s skin!
